Memorial Weekend Camping Trip

We just returned home from our annual church Memorial Day Weekend Camping Trip in Kachemak Bay.

We drove down to Homer, put all of our camping gear onboard, and boated out to a remote beach with no internet or cell phone reception. In all we had 5 boats, 3 rafts, 18 tents, and 38 campers in our group. It was an amazing time full of laughter and memories.

On the boat, ready to go

Camping in Alaska is unlike any other camping experience. It’s its own breed of camping – mixed with almost endless daylight, some fishing, clamming, boating, rafting, giant fire-building, zip lining, and numerous other outdoor options Alaska has to offer. The scenery is breathtaking, the wildlife is abounding, and the weather is unpredictable… all of which adds to the great adventure of it all.

I tried a lot of new camping meals and methods this trip and learned several lessons that will come in handy for future camping excursions. I am excited to share a couple of recipes and tips that have worked well for us in the next couple of posts. Stay tuned.
